A filter device for production of aroma extracts from coffee or tea. The filter device comprises a bag-shaped filter insert and a filter vessel. The bag-shaped filter insert is produced from filter paper and in a folded position presents a flat-lying arrangement with an approximately truncated pyramidal base area. The filter insert is unfolded into an open position and inserted into the filter vessel. The filter insert includes embossed lines which facilitate the unfolding or opening of the filter insert from the flat-lying arrangement, and which also provide support lines or forces to maintain the filter insert in the open position and prevent the filter insert from collapsing inwards.
