The invention relates to a filter element for removing moisture contained in a material to be dried and for creating a filter cake of the material to be dried on the filtering surface of the filter element. According to the invention, the filtering surface (1, 6) of the filter element (11) is composed of at least two parts (2, 3; 7, 8) where mutually different filtering conditions can be created in order to form a filter cake containing at least one component to be filtered on the whole filtering surface (1, 6) of the filter element (11).
