Abstract: A filter element made wholly of fluorocarbon resin comprises a filter material produced by folding a sandwich-form sheet comprising a filter membrane made of a fluorocarbon resin and net supporters made of a thermoplastic fluorocarbon resin superimposed on the surfaces thereof into pleat form. The edges of the pleated sheet are welded together in a liquid tight manner and sealed ends are produced by embedding the ends in a thermoplastic fluorocarbon resin to force the resin into the pleats, As a result the ends are each integrally and tightly welded. Fluorocarbon resin caps are then welded in a liquid-tight manner to the sealed ends. The filter element thus produced is characterized in that the materials consist wholly of fluorocarbon resins, so that problems of chemical resistance, temperature resistance and metal leaching are avoided. Also, fluorocarbon resins, which have previously been regarded as difficult to weld together, can be brought to a liquid-tight welded state.
