A filter for a downhole pump includes a longitudinally pleated filter pack. In apreferred form of the invention, the filter pack contains a polymeric filter medium. The filter medium may be selected to be capable of removing particles large enough to damage a pump which the filter is intended to protect, but the filter medium may pass smaller particles which will not damage the pump. In a preferred embodiment, thepleats of the filter pack are in a laid-over state in which the radially outer portions of the pleats are displaced with. respect to the radially inner portions of the pleats in the circumferential direction of the filter pack.

Un filtre pour pompe fond de trou comporte une garniture filtrée. Dans une version privilégiée de l'invention, la garniture de filtre contient un milieu filtrant polymère. Le milieu filtrant est choisi en fonction de sa capacité de retenir les particules de taille suffisante pour endommager la pompe qu'il est destiné à protéger tout en laissant passer les particules de plus petit diamètre qui ne présentent aucun risque.
