ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE For the purpose of purifying gases, especially gases at elevated temperatures, several filters are arranged side by side, in practice, one filter being subjected to cleaning while the other is in operation. Although this ensures continuous operation, at least two filter units are needed. These not only take up a relatively large amount of space but also require a relatively large amount of material and are relatively costly. According to the present invention, these disadvantages are overcome by dividing the filter into a plurality of chambers, each comprising a layer of bulk material, which is disposed annularly around a central channel for the discharge of the media separated out of the gases. The chambers are connected to one another through openings pro- vided in the chamber wall immediately above the layer of bulk material. Each chamber is connected to a raw gas supply pipe and a pure gas discharge conduit.
