ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A filter is disclosed having a truncated conical sieve slanting downwardly from an outer periphery towards a center of the sieve, an outlet for solid impurities at an inner periphery of the sieve, at least one radially extending spray pipe rotatable about the center below the sieve and being generally parallel thereto, and a feed pipe for supplying liquid to the spray pipe. The spray pipe is provided with a plurality of nozzle openings directed at an angle with respect to the longitudinal direction of the spray pipe so that jets of liquid emerg- ing from the nozzle openings hit the lower surface of the sieve at an obtuse angle as viewed from the center of the filter.
