Filter material and method of removing oxides of nitrogen from gases and liquids A filter material based on a polyarylenethioether with recurring units of the formula -[(Ar1)n-X)]m-[(Ar2)i-Y)]j-[(Ar3)k-Z)]1-[(Ar4)o-W)]p- (I) in which Ar1, Ar2, Ar3, Ar4, W, X, Y and Z independently of one another are identical or different, the indices n, m, i, j, k, l, o and p independently of one another are zero or integers 1, 2, 3 or 4, the sum of which is at least 2, Ar1, Ar2, Ar3 and Ar4 are arylene systems of 6 to 18 carbon atoms and W, X, Y and Z are divalent linking groups selected from -SO2-, -S-, -SO-, -CO-, -O-, -CO2- or alkylene or alkylidene groups of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, for removing oxides of nitrogen (NOx) from gases or liquids. Also claimed is a method of removing oxides of nitrogen, in which an NOx-containing gas or a liquid is brought into contact with the abovementioned filter material and a chemical reaction occurs. Nitrogen monoxide can likewise be removed by adding to the filter material oxidative inorganic or organic compounds having an electron potential of greater than or equal to 0.96 V.

Un matériau filtrant est à base d'un thioéther de polyarylène comportant des unités récurrentes de la formule (I): -[(AR<1>)n-X)]m-[(Ar<2>)i-Y)]j-[(Ar<3>)k-Z)]l-[(Ar<4>)o-W)]p-, dans laquelle Ar<1>, Ar<2>, Ar<3>, Ar<4>, W, X, Y et Z sont identiques ou différents, indépendamment les uns des autres, les indices n, m, j, k, l, o et p valent zéro ou représentent le nombre entier 1, 2, 3 ou 4, indépendamment les uns des autres, leur somme s'élevant au moins à 2; Ar<1>, Ar<2>, Ar<3> et Ar<4> désignent des systèmes arylène ayant entre 6 et 18 atomes de C; et W, X, Y et Z constituent des groupes de chaînage bivalents, sélectionnés parmi des groupes -SO2-, -S-, -SO-, -CO-, -O-, -CO2- ou alkylène ou alkylidène ayant entre 1 et 6 atomes de C. L'invention concerne également un procédé permettant d'éliminer des oxydes nitriques, selon lequel un gaz ou un liquide contenant du NOX est mis en contact avec le matériau filtrant mentionné, ce qui entraîne une réaction chimique. L'oxyde nitrique peut également être éliminé si l'on ajoute au matériau filtrant des composés inorganiques ou organiques à action oxydante, ayant un potentiel d'électrons d'au moins 0,96 V.
