A filter panel for use in a filter screen unit is shown and described. The filter panel includes a modular frame and a plurality of inserts that snap into the frame. With the frame being modular, it can be assembled with common components to accommodate differing frame sizes and the frames can be dimensioned to be interchangeable with existing filter panels in order to accommodate retrofits. Both the frame and the inserts are fabricated from non-metallic materials which decreases weight, decreases cost, increases resistance to the corrosive waste stream environment, and increases the overall life of the filter screen unit.
