A filter paper insert for the preparation of aroma extracts of coffee or tea. The filter paper insert is formed from a fibrous material and includes a usable filter surface. The usable filter surface is provided over its entirety or in portions with pores which improve the permeability for colloidial particles carrying aroma extracts. The pores through deformations of the filter paper are formed approximately perpendicular to the surface of the filter paper in such a manner that the planes of the pores run at approximately right angles to the filter paper surface.
