A b s t r a c t A filter device suitable for filtering sludges which comprises a tube of woven fabric of man-made fibres with vertically extending warp threads and horizontally extending weft threads, one end of the said tube being closed by means of a closure and the other end being left open, wherein the weft threads in the region of the closure and in the region of the open end are set closer together than in the other regions of the filter, and a process of dewatering sludge by means of said filter device.
