ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a filter tube which consists of a plurality of interrelated, randomly disposed inorganic glass fibers having interstices therebetween to define the porosity of the filter. The fibers have a diameter ranging from about 0.001 to about 10 microns and are bonded at the junctions of the fibre cross-over points with a hardened silicone resin as a bonding agent. The fibers are interrelated to form a semirigid porous self-supporting fibrous filter tube. The invention also relates to a method for preparing such a filter. In accordance with the invention, a mass of randomly disposed interrelated inorganic fibers are formed into a mass of the desired shape and porosity. The cross-over junctions of the fibers are bonded while in the mass with hardened cross-linked silicone resin employed as the bonding agent, to thereby provide a porous fiber filter tube.
