56,211 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A vertical vessel having an upper inlet and a lower outlet enclosures separated by a main horizontal tube sheet. The inlet enclosure receives the flue gas stream which contains particulate from a boiler of a power system and the outlet enclosure supplies gas from which the parti- culate has been removed to the turbines. The gas in the inlet enclosure is at high temperature and high pressure. To separate the particulate, the inlet enclosure contains a plurality of particulate-removing clusters, each having a plurality Or filter units. Each filter unit includes a filter chamber defined by a plate and a perforated auxiliary tube sheet with filter rods suspended from each tube sheet and a tube connected to each chamber for passing cleaned gas to the outlet enclosure. The clusters are suspended from the main tube sheet by a pipe with their filter units extend- ing vertically in succession and the tubes passing through the tube sheet and opening in the outlet enclosure. Each cluster is formed into a physically integrated structure by pipes connecting the auxiliary tube sheet of each upper chamber in the succession to the plate of the next lower chamber in the succession. The air stream containing the particulate is circulated about the outside surfaces of the filter rods and the particulate is absorbed in the pores of the rods. Pulses to clean the rods are passed through their inner holes through tubes free of bends which are aligned with the tubes that pass the clean gas. Each filter rod is mounted in an assembly including a housing for the head of the filter rod. Gaskets for accommodating the filter rod to the conditions within the vessel are interposed between the housing and the head of the filter rod.
