A B S T R A C T The apparatus comprises a mainly horizontal rotary drum provided with filter walls and with inner blades for conveying the slag upwards, after which it falls freely onto a conveyor belt passing longitudinally through the drum, and associated with deflectors (10, 12) serving to guide the slag during its fall onto the said belt, said deflectors (10, 12) being inclined in relation to the direction of movement of the conveyor belt, where- in the drum is axially subdivided into a number of sec- tions 41, 42, 43, the blades 6 of each section being offset angularly in relation to the blades 6 of the adjacent section or sections.
