ABSTRACT Separation of gypsum from phosphoric acid liquor produced during the production of phosphoric acid from finely ground phosphate rock is enhanced by use of filtration aids. These filtration aids are characterized as containing a sulfonated acrylamide polymer containing at least about 1 mole percent sulfonate and having a reduced specific viscosity (RSV) of at least 5, the sulfonated polymer being selected from the group consisting of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonate/ acrylamide, 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonate acrylate/ acrylamide and 2-acrylamidoethanesulfonate/acrylate/acrylamide.
