A financial transaction apparatus (30) includes a financial transaction machine (32). The machine includes devices (34) including transaction function devices (42, 44, 46, 48) for carrying out operations associated with financial transactions. The terminal also includes an imaging device (50) and an audio input device (52), as well as a visual output device (36) and an audio output device (54). Terminal (32) is connected to a computer (68) which has an associated data store (70). The data store includes user data including image data and voice data corresponding to authorized users. The identity of a customer operating the machine is determined by resolving first identity data based on image signals from the imaging device which correspond to a user's appearence. Second identity data is resolved by the processor from voice signals from the audio input device corresponding to the user's voice. The computer enables operation of the transaction function devices if the level of correlation between the first and second identity data is sufficient to establish that the image and voice signals originate from a single authorized user.
L'appareil (30) pour transactions financières selon l'invention se compose d'une machine (32) qui est chargée d'assurer ces transactions. Cette machine comprend des dispositifs (34) à fonction de transactions financières dont certains (42, 44, 46, 48) chargés d'exécuter les opérations en rapport avec lesdites transactions. Le terminal comprend également un dispositif d'imagerie (50), un dispositif d'entrée audio (52) ainsi que des dispositifs de sortie respectivement visuelle (36) et audio (54). Le terminal (32) est relié à un ordinateur (68) doté d'une mémoire (70) de données connexe. Cette mémoire renferme des données d'image et vocales correspondant à des utilisateurs agréés. L'identification d'un client qui utilise la machine consiste dans le traitement de premières données d'identité basées sur des signaux d'image provenant du dispositif d'imagerie qui correspondent à l'aspect physique de l'utilisateur. Le processeur traite ensuite des secondes données d'identité à partir de signaux vocaux provenant du dispositif audio d'entrée correspondant à la de la voix de l'utilisateur. L'ordinateur n'autorise l'activation des dispositifs à fonction de transactions financières que si le niveau de corrélation entre les premières et secondes données d'identité est suffisant pour garantir que les signaux d'image et vocaux proviennent d'un seul et même utilisateur agréé.
