The novel aqueous polymer dispersions based on styrol(meth)acrylic acid ester copolymers are obtained by radically initiated emulsion polymerization of (a) 30 to 60 wt. % of at least one optionally substituted styrol; (b) 60 to 30 wt. % of at least one (meth)acrylic acid C1-C4 alkyl ester, (c) 0 to 10 wt. % of other ethylinically unsaturated copolymerizable monomers and (d) 10 to 40 wt. % degraded starch with a molar weight M a = 500 to 10,000, in the presence of a graft-active, water-soluble redox system. Said dispersions are quite suitable for use as paper sizing agents.

L'invention concerne de nouvelles dispersions polymères aqueuses à base de copolymères de styrolène et d'ester de l'acide (méth)acrylique. On obtient ces dispersions polymères par polymérisation radicaire en émulsion de a) 30 à 60 % en poids d'au moins un styrolène éventuellement substitué b) de 60 à 30 % en poids d'au moins un ester d'alkyle C1-C4 de l'acide (méth)acrylique c) de 0 à 10 % en poids d'autres monomères copolymérisables insaturés éthyléniquement et d) de 10 à 40 % en poids d'amidon dégradé de poids moléculaire Mn compris entre 500 et 10000, en présence d'un système rédox soluble dans l'eau à action de greffage. Les dispersions polymères selon l'invention conviennent tout particulièrement comme produit de collage pour le papier.
