FINGERPRINT VERIFICATION SYSTEM Abstract A fingerprint verification system is disclosed which can be used as a fast and effective security device to verify that an applicant to a service protected by the system is authorized to use the system. This security check is performed through a correlation operation. Electronic information allowing the creation of a correlation filter on a spatial light modulator (SLM) is input from a smart card or fingerprint database to an SLM. The fingerprint or cluster of fingerprints of the applicant are then correlated through the SLM in order to derive a comparison with those electronically stored. Although the system used electronically stored pattern information, the correlation is performed optically.
