The invention is directed to a fire door (300) having a core (301), stiles (302), and rails (303) formed of resin bonded exfoliated vermiculite, wherein the core (301) has a density which exceeds that of the stiles (302) and rails (303). The invention is also directed to such a fire door (300) additionally having an intumescent material (306) placed on some or all of the exposed edges of the stiles and rails.
