A lightweight hatchet for use by firefighters and rescue workers is disclosed. The hatchet includes a head (11) having a blade side (15) and a cutting side (17), both designed to rip and tear an obstruction, such as a roof, wall, door, etc., without becoming entangled in the obstruction. The blade (15) includes a blade having a beveled edge (23) with a relatively sharp radius of curvature that ends at rounded corners (25). The rounded corners (25) terminate at curve-back regions (27) that curve back toward the handle (13) of the hatchet. The cutting side (17) includes a pair of teeth (31, 33), one positioned outside the other. The outside tooth (31) is curved and its periphery is beveled to create a cutting edge. The slot (35) between the teeth (31, 33) is shaped such that sheets of metal and other strong materials can be cut by inserting the outer tooth (31) in a hole in the sheet and ratcheting the handle back and forth. Both the blade and cutting sides (15, 17) of the hatchet head (11) are relatively thin. Further, the blade and cutting sides (15, 17) are of substantially the same weight to balance the hatchet.
La présente invention a pour objet une hachette de faible poids pour pompiers et personnel de secours. Ladite hachette est composée d'une tête (11) ayant un côté lame (15) et un côté tranchant (17), tous deux conçus pour déchirer et arracher un obstacle, tel qu'un toit, un mur, une porte, etc., sans que la hachette ne reste coincée dans celui-ci. La partie lame (15) est composée d'une lame à bord biseauté (23) dont le rayon de courbure relativement aigu se termine par des angles arrondis (25). Les extrémités de ces bords arrondis (25) ont une forme courbée vers l'arrière (27), orientée vers le manche (13) de la hachette. Le côté tranchant (17) comporte une paire de dents (31, 33), dont l'une est positionnée à l'extérieur de l'autre. La dent extérieure (31) est courbée et son pourtour est biseauté de façon à former un bord tranchant. La fente (35) formée entre les deux dents (31, 33) est conçue pour pouvoir trancher des tôles ou tout autre matériau solide. Pour ce faire, l'utilisateur insère la dent extérieure (31) dans un trou formé dans la tôle et exécute un mouvement avant-arrière avec le manche. Le côté lame et le côté tranchant (15, 17) de la tête de la hachette (11) sont tout deux relativement fins. De plus, les côtés lame et tranchant (15, 17) sont pratiquement du même poids de façon à ce que la hachette soit équilibrée.
