Abstract of the Disclosure An intumescent curable composition has as its principal constitu- ents an epoxy resin; a curing agent; and an additive component which is composed of a mixture of materials which provide a source of phosphorus, zinc, boron and an expansion gas. The aforesaid composition is capable of forming a carbonaceous char upon exposure to heat or flame.
