An enclosure is disclosed for use in conjunction with a recessed fixture. The enclosure includes a substantially rectangular housing defining a top wall and side walls. Each of the walls has exterior and interior wall surfaces, and at least the interior wall surfaces of the housing are provided with a fire resistant material. Flanges depend outwardly from bottom edges of side walls of the housing to facilitate mounting of the housing between spaced apart building joists.
