A fire resistant paint includes a film-forming binder, a solvent, and a hydrated mineral that imparts fire resistance to the paint. The paint, when applied to a fibrous composite article which comprises at least about 20 wt% lignocellulosic fibers bound together into a consolidated fibrous article, provides the article with a flame spread index of not greater than about 50.

L'invention concerne une peinture résistante au feu qui comprend un liant filmogène, un solvant et un minéral hydraté qui confère une résistance au feu à la peinture. Lorsqu'on applique la peinture sur un article composite fibreux qui comprend au mois environ 20 % pds de fibres lignocellulosiques réunies ensemble en un article fibreux consolidé, on obtient un article  dont l'indice de propagation de flamme n'est pas supérieur à environ 50.
