A fire starter for use with fireplaces is provided to enable a user to start fires within a fireplace with minimal effort. The fire starter may be portable and comprises a conduit connected at one end to an outlet head located inside the base of the fireplace and at the other end to a regulator valve located outside the fireplace. The regulator valve is connected to a fuel source such as a propane gas container, or any other container which holds flammable material used to assist with combustion. When activated, the fire starter delivers the flammable material from the fuel source to the base of the fireplace so that the user may be able to start a fire on the logs in the fireplace.
