ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a light-coloured extruded firebrick said light beige colour changing to red brown upon heating said brick at a temperature of from 1170° C to 1250 C comprising a fired mixture of from 65 to 75% by weight of chry- sotile asbestos residues having a particle size selected from ?0.400 to ?0.750 mm and mixtures thereof 20 to 30% by weight of plastic glacial clay and to 3 to 5% by weight of hydrated lime. There may also be incorporated up to 15% by volume of sawdust to provide a firebrick with microscopic voids which reduce the weight of the brick up to 10% and give to the brick insulating properties
