The fireplace is suitable for camp-ground use, and comprises a circular bowl supported on a pedestal. The ash-can fits inside the hollow pedestal. Air for the fire enters the pedestal, and emerges into the bowl underneath the fire grate. Ashes from the fire drop through holes in the grate, not directly into the ash-can, but first onto the floor of the bowl, where the incoming air promotes complete combustion.
