The present invention provides molded fireplace articles comprising a plurality of non-white inorganic fibers that are substantially uniformly coated with a colored metal oxide. The present invention further provides a method of manufacturing molded fireplace articles comprising: providing a plurality of non-white inorganic fibers; mixing the fibers with a binder and a liquid to form a slurry; pouring the slurry into a mold having a desired shape; and forming the slurry into a shaped article. A method of preparing non- white inorganic fibers is also provided, the method comprising the steps of: providing a colorant solution formed by dispersing or dissolving a metal compound into a carrier liquid, providing an inorganic fiber, applying the colorant solution to the inorganic fiber to form a colorant coated fiber, and heating the colorant coated fiber to a temperature sufficient to decompose the metal compound to a non-white metal oxide that is substantially uniformly coated on said fibers.
La présente invention concerne des articles de foyer moulés comportant une pluralité de fibres inorganiques colorées sensiblement revêtues d'une couche uniforme d'oxyde métallique. L'invention concerne également un procédé de fabrication d'articles de foyer moulés comportant des étapes qui consistent à: disposer d'une pluralité de fibres inorganiques; mélanger les fibres avec un liant et un liquide en vue de former une barbotine; couler la barbotine dans un moule présentant la forme désirée; et former la barbotine en un article moulé. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé de préparation de fibres inorganiques colorées, ledit procédé comprenant les étapes suivantes qui consistent à: disposer d'une solution de matière colorante par dispersion ou dissolution d'un composé métallique dans un support liquide, disposer d'une fibre inorganique; appliquer la solution de matière colorante à la fibre inorganique afin de former une fibre revêtue de matière colorante; chauffer la fibre revêtue de matière colorante à une température suffisante pour décomposer le composé métallique en un oxyde métallique formant une couche uniforme sur lesdites fibres.
