ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE In the operation of fireplaces, use is made of grates to support the fuels of combustion, the commonest fuels being wood and coal. In the case of wood, it is common for conventional grates to hold the logs in a horizontal position with their axis lying parallel to the face of the fireplace. In this invention, the grate displays an inclined V-shaped trough enclosed at the lower end. When the grate is in place, the trough is inclined towards the rear of the fireplace. This inclines the axis of the logs towards the rear of the fireplace and perpendicular to its face. By holding the logs in this position, uses are made of the natural forces which exist in a burning process to improve the operation and performance of a fireplace.
