ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fireplace heating system including at least one upright panel means adapted to close the fireplace opening and to selectively control the admission of air from a remote source to the interior of the fireplace through the actuation, by the panel movement, of air flow control devices mounted in ductwork leading from the remote source to the interior of the fireplace. In one embodiment, the system includes hood means mounted over the fireplace through which flue gases pass to the chimney and which defines, with the fireplace and chimney walls, a passageway for the flow of selected air past the hood means for heating of the air preparatory to its distribution to an area to be heated.
