A direct vent gas fireplace has a combustion air duct extending down the back wall, between the housing back wall and the fireplace back wall. It is located laterally between two cooling air ducts that lead from the cool air zones at the bottom outer corners of the housing to a cooling air plenum inside the top of the housing. Inside the cooling air plenum and the cooling air ducts are a room air plenum and room air circulating space for the circulation of room air to be heated. This provides a compact construction with adequate wall cooling without the need for additional thermal insulation. The top of the unit is oriented at an angle less than 45°, preferably 23.2° to horizontal so that the exhaust and vent pipes can be arranged in a top vent or a back vent arrangement without the pipes projecting beyond the back of the fireplace unit In the top vent arrangement.
Cette invention concerne un foyer au gaz à ventilation directe équipé d'un tuyau d'amenée d'air de combustion passant derrière la paroi arrière de l'enveloppe du foyer et entre celle-ci et le fond du logement de foyer. Ce tuyau est situé entre deux conduits d'air de refroidissement qui partent des zones d'air frais aux coins inférieurs extérieurs de l'enveloppe du foyer et mènent à un caisson de refroidissement situé en partie haute à l'intérieur de l'enveloppe précitée. € l'intérieur du caisson de refroidissement et des conduits d'air frais se trouvent respectivement un caisson d'air ambiant et un espace de circulation d'air ambiant à réchauffer. Cette disposition constructive offre un encombrement réduit assorti d'un refroidissement adéquat des parois de l'enveloppe qui dispense de prévoir une isolation thermique additionnelle. Le sommet du foyer est incliné selon un angle inférieur à 45 degrés par rapport à l'horizontale, de préférence selon un angle de 23.2 degrés, pour permettre une disposition des tuyaux d'évacuation et de ventilation soit verticale soit inclinée vers l'arrière sans dépasser l'arrière du foyer.
