Disclosed are apparatus and methodology subject matters for upgrading firmware associated with one or more metrology devices and adjunct devices. Methods are disclosed for broadcast transmission of portions of a firmware image file from an originating device over a network connecting multiple devices to be upgraded. The entire image file may be transmitted as segments to be assembled by the end devices. Broadcast segments not properly received from the originating device may be retried directly from the originating device or from neighbors correctly receiving the segment. A viral propagation methodology is disclosed as an alternative to portions of the broadcast methodology.

L'invention concerne un appareil et une méthodologie destinés à mettre à niveau un micrologiciel associé à un ou plusieurs dispositifs de métrologie et à des dispositifs auxiliaires. L'invention décrite comporte des procédés de transmission pour télédiffusion de parties d'un fichier image de micrologiciel, provenant d'un dispositif d'origine, sur un réseau reliant plusieurs dispositifs à mettre à niveau. Il est possible de transmettre l'intégralité du fichier image sous la forme de segments qui doivent être assemblés par les dispositifs terminaux. Des segments de télédiffusion incorrectement reçus du dispositif d'origine peuvent faire l'objet de nouvelles tentatives, directement à partir des dispositifs d'origine, ou de dispositifs voisins qui ont correctement reçu le segment. L'invention décrite comporte une méthodologie de propagation virale constituant une variante pour une partie de la méthodologie de télédiffusion.
