Firmware Transitional Programmable Sequential Logic Controller ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An apparatus comprising a scanning pulse generator arranged to generate scanning signals at regularly offset times; an input detection circuit comprising transition detectors each detecting the transitions or changes of state of an input variable signal and producing a detect signal only when one input transition of said input signal is detected at the time that the corresponding scanning signal is received during the scanning cycle. A sequential memory containing the data identifying the stages in the control sequence, reads in the detect signals from the transition detectors thereby to provide the data identifying the next stage in the control sequence corresponding to a transition detection for one and only one operation variable.
