ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A low insertion force system includes a pair of connec- tors having terminals that do not make contact as the connectors are brought against one another. After the connectors are brought together, a cam is actuated to deflect one set of terminals against the other. According to the invention, there is a set of main terminals and the cam which deflects the main terminals of one connector against those of the other connector also carries an auxiliary terminal that contacts a corresponding auxiliary terminal on one of the connectors, to make contact as the cam moves relative to the connectors to deflect a set of main termin- als. The auxiliary terminals act as first make-last break termin- als because they engage before the main terminals and stay in contact after the main terminals have disengaged.
