A process is disclosed for the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide. The process involves contacting a feed stream comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide with a catalyst system in a reaction zone maintained at conversion-promoting conditions effective to produce an effluent stream, preferably comprising hydrocarbons. In accordance with this invention the catalyst system used in the process includes at least one catalytic material for Fischer-Tropsch reactions (e.g., iron, cobalt, nickel and/or ruthenium), preferably comprising cobalt, and a support comprising aluminum borate. The catalyst system can be prepared by impregnating alumina with a boron-containing composition to form an aluminum borate support and applying a Fischer-Tropsch catalytically active material to the aluminum borate to form a supported catalyst system.

L'invention concerne un procédé servant à hydrogéner de l'oxyde de carbone. Ce procédé consiste à mettre en contact un flux de charge comprenant hydrogène et oxyde de carbone avec un catalyseur dans une zone de réaction maintenue dans des conditions favorables à la conversion, ce qui permet de produire un flux d'effluents composé, de préférence, d'hydrocarbures. D'après l'invention, le système catalytique mis en application dans ce procédé comprend au moins un matériau catalytique conçu pour des réactions de Fischer-Tropsch (par exemple, fer, cobalt, nickel et/ou ruthénium) contenant, de préférence, cobalt, ainsi qu'un support composé de borate d'aluminium. On peut préparer ce catalyseur par imprégnation d'oxyde d'aluminium par une composition contenant du bore afin d'obtenir un support de borate d'aluminium et application au borate d'aluminium d'un matériau actif sur le plan catalytique de Fischer-Tropsch, de manière à obtenir un catalyseur supporté.
