ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for engaging a fish hook in a fish comprises a connector for first and second lengths of fishing line, the second length of which terminates in a fish hook. The device comprises a device for engaging a fish hook in a fish when the fish snaps at a lure, the device comprising a resiliently de- formable member having connection means for fishing line and the member being latchable in its deformed condition including guide means to guide a pair of latching members into releasable engagement on tensile force on the connection means, and a float being provided movable between an unbuoyed position in which it is adapted to inhibit release of the engagement on tensile force on the connection means and a buoyed position in which it permits release of the engagement on tensile force on the connection means. When the fish snaps at the bait of a fishing hook at the end of the line the engagement is released and the hook jerks in the fish mouth.
