ABSTRACT A traveling water screen includes rotating sprockets elevated above a water intake channel. An endless series of screens and intermediate elongated water-tight buckets hang downwardly in the channel and operate over the rotating sprockets. The screens intercept the fish in the channel and the buckets elevate the fish which are dumped from the buckets as they pass over the sprockets. Water sprays are provided to push the fish toward a receiving trough by which the fish may be conveyed to a holding pond or returned to the stream or body of water.
