ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fishing reel has a forward housing which includes first and second spaced apart sides, a rotatable line spool traversing the first and second sides of the housing, gears located in the first side of the housing for rotating the spool, a gear movement transfer member extending from the first side to the second side of the housing, a lever arm for rotating the spool, a first lever arm mount for mounting the lever arm at the first side of the housing and a second lever arm mount for mounting the lever arm connected to the gear movement transfer member at the second side of the housing. The lever arm is releasably securable to both the first and second lever arm mounts for both left and right hand operation of the reel.
