ABSTRACT A fishing rod holder is disclosed which is suitable for a fishing rod having a handle, a staff and a line. The holder has an elongate base for resting in a stable manner on a flat supporting surface. The base has a front end and a rear portion. There are means for firmly and releasably holding the handle portion of the fishing rod mounted on the rear portion of the base. The handle of the fishing rod is supported at an acute angle to the supporting surface. The base extends for a substantial distance from the forwardmost point of engagement of the holding means with the handle held therein.
