2137692 9325315 PCTABS00028 A fixed-angle centrifuge rotor (10, 30, 61, 90) fabricated from fiber-reinforced composite material is disclosed that includes means for reinforcing radially outer portions (23, 78) of the cell holes (18, 58, 66, 76) in a direction transverse to the laminated layers (13, 70) of the rotor core (12, 32, 64, 92). In one embodiment, the reinforcement means is a material wound over the periphery of the rotor core (32, 92). In another embodiment, the reinforcement means is a material bonded into each of the cell holes (66). In a third embodiment, the reinforcement means is a formed region (74) of the laminated layers (70) to orient the fibers therein obliquely to the rotor axis (14).
