ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The instant invention is directed to a process for the production of an aromatic amino compound of the formula: Image wherein R is an alkyl substituent of from 1 to about 18 carbon atoms, m is an integer of from 1 to 3, and n is an integer of from 0 to 5, comprising subjecting a nitro compound of the formula: Image wherein R, m, and n are as defined above, to gaseous hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst, the improvement wherein said catalyst is an activated noble metal in the form of a screen or other coherent body.
