FIXED OPTICAL ATTENUATOR Abstract of the Disclosure A fixed optical attenuator consists of two optical fibers, the end face of one fiber coated with a light attenuating film, abutting the end face of the other fiber, and adhering to it. In one embodiment the film is vacuum-deposited chromium. The attenuator is far more easily fabricated than are known fixed attenuation devices. It is also less mode selective. - i -
