A two-stage cell routing filter mechanism employs a customer premises associated flag bit field (133) in ATM data cells being serially transmitted from a host digital terminal's data transport path through an optical fiber (22) to a downstream optical network unit (23) associated with a plurality of customer premises equipments (40). The first stage of the cell routing filter is comprised of a look-up table (LTU) and an associated comparator mechanism. The state of each bit of the flag field of an ATM cell preamble will indicate whether or not the ATM cell is intended for the customer premises equipment associated with the bit. A downstream optical network unit contains an associated set of ATM cell filters associated with customer premises equipment. Each customer equipment cell filter examines a given bit position in the flag field portion of each received ATM cell preamble, to see whether the flag field bit of the preamble of the received ATM cell is set to a prescribed bit value (e.g. one) - indicating a customer channel request.
Un mécanisme de filtrage de routage de cellules à deux étages emploie un champ de bit indicateur associé à du matériel d'abonné (133) dans des cellules ATM faisant l'objet d'une transmission sérielle par fibre optique (22) à partir du circuit de transport de données d'un terminal numérique central vers une unité de réseau optique en aval (23) associée à plusieurs équipements d'abonné (40). Le premier étage du filtre de routage de cellule est constitué d'une table de consultation (LTU) et d'un mécanisme comparateur associé. L'état de chaque élément binaire du champ indicateur d'un préambule de cellule ATM va indiquer si oui ou non la cellule ATM est destinée au matériel d'abonné associé à l'élément binaire. Un unité de réseau optique en aval contient un ensemble de filtres de cellules ATM associés aux équipements d'abonné. Chaque filtre de cellules d'équipements d'abonné examine une position d'élément binaire donnée dans la partie du champ indicateur de chaque préambule de cellule ATM reçu, pour vérifier si l'élément binaire du champ indicateur du préambule de cellule ATM reçu est réglé sur la valeur binaire prescrite (à savoir un), ce qui indiquerait une demande de canal d'abonné.
