ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention covers a flail member of the type useful in a debarking system for removing bark from logs as the logs travel relative to the flail member through a debarking station. The flail member has a plurality of laterally spaced chain segments mounted on a rotatable member with the segments arranged in a plurality of rows, and at least some of the chain segments have different lengths for example approximately 2/3 that of the other chain segments in order to provide a different lateral vibratory frequency upon impact with the logs.
