ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved method for generating hydrogen bromide by the flame reaction of hydrogen and bromine is provided, A helical flow of bromine is established in a cylindrical enclosure and hydrogen gas is fed radially outward into the bromine in the region of its helical flow, the so-formed system then entering a flame zone in the vicinity of the discharge end of said enclosure, The flame zone is shown to be quite stable providing virtually complete conversion of the bromine at essentially 1:1 hydrogen:bromine ratio, or with only several percent excess hydrogen.
