The invention relates to an optical fiber cable comprising: a central member; at least one substantially fluid impervious tube wound around said central members; a plurality of optical fibers loosely received in said tube; a sheath of plastic material encircling said tube which is around said central member, said plastic material having a predetermined flame propagating value which prevents flame propagation upon combustion greater than a predetermined value; a thermal barrier layer encircling said tube and said central member and intermediate said tube and said sheath, said thermal barrier layer being electrically non-conductive and non-combustible; a water blocking material in any otherwise empty spaces in said tube and between said thermal barrier layer and said tube, said water blocking material permitting said optical fibers to move with respect to said tube and permitting said tube to move with respect to said thermal barrier layer and to said central structural member. The cable of the invention reduces termination and splicing problems and, because the fibers are loosely enclosed in tubes, the fibers are free from stress during installation and operation.
Câble de fibres optiques comprenant les parties suivantes : un élément central; au moins un tube essentiellement étanche enroulé autour des éléments centraux; de nombreuses fibres optiques contenues dans le tube de manière relâchée; une gaine en matériau plastique encerclant le tube enroulé autour de l'élément central, ce matériau ayant une valeur de propagation des flammes prédéterminée qui empêche la propagation des flammes lorsque la combustion dépasse une valeur prédéterminée; une couche isolante entourant le tube et l'élément central et l'espace intermédiaire entre le tube et la gaine, cette couche isolante étant non conductrice et non inflammable; un matériau imperméable placé dans les espaces vides du tube et entre la couche isolante et le tube, ce matériau permettant aux fibres optiques de se déplacer par rapport au tube tout en offrant au tube la possibilité de se déplacer par rapport à la couche isolante et à l'élément central. Le câble de l'invention diminue les problèmes de terminaison et d'épissage. Les fibres étant contenues dans les tubes de manière relâchée, elles ne subissent aucune contrainte pendant l'installation et le fonctionnement.
