Abstract of the Disclosure A flame resistant organic substance has an organic sub- stance and a particular flame retardant compound in intimate contact therewith. The flame retardant compound is a polymeric compound containing aromatic rings connected by alkyl moieties and is defined by a structural formula. The formula is the following. [A] Image wherein each X is independently Cl or Br, preferably Cl; each Z is independently Cl, Br, or H, preferably H; and n is suffi- ciently high that the compound will be sufficiently nonvolatile that it is capable of retarding the tendency of an organic sub- stance to flame.
