ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Polyester/cotton fabrics are imparted with flame-retardant properties using a multi step system. The polyester component is first treated with a phosphorus- or bromine-based flame retardant; then the cotton component is treated with one, preferably two, phosphorus-containing flame-retardant treatments. Flame-resistant blended fabrics having improved hand and increased durability through multiple launderings result.
