Disclosed are microporous, open-celled polymeric foams formed by polymerizing a high internal phase water-in-oil emulsion comprising a continuous oil phase and discontinuous water phase where the foam has a Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) value of at least about 18 %. Such foams are commonly known in the art as "HIPEs". The foams have a variety of flame retardant applications, including use in insulation.

L'invention concerne des mousses polymères microporeuses, à alvéoles ouverts, formées en polymérisant une émulsion d'eau dans l'huile, à phase interne élevée, comprenant une phase d'huile continue et une phase d'eau discontinue dans laquelle la mousse présente une valeur d'indice limite d'oxygène d'au moins 18 % environ. Ces mousses sont généralement connues dans l'art comme des émulsions à phase interne élevée. Ces mousses présentent un grand nombre d'applications anti-feu, y compris, comme moyen d'isolation.
