ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A flat coil dynamoelectric device is provided herein. It includes a substantially rigid preform having an integral outer frame structure having a central bore, a self-supporting shape, which is substantially symmetrical about a center axis. It also includes an integral inner frame structure having a central bore and which is substantially symmetrical about the center axis located within the central bore of the outer frame structure. The inner frame structure has a self-supporting shape. Plural coils of wire form a complete set of coils for the device, the coils being wound on the frame structures. The coils have sides spanning between the frame structures and end turns extending generally along the frame structures, the frame structures of the preform being held in mutually spaced relation by the coils. A matrix of resinous material encapsulates the preform.
