A drilling fluid having an oleaginous fluid that forms the continuous phase; a non-oleaginous fluid, which is the discontinuous phase; a primary emulsifier in sufficient concentration to stabilize the invert emulsion; and a rheology modifier, which serves to moderate the rheology change across a temperature range of 40 to 150 °C. The rheology modifier may be a dimer poly-carboxylic C12 to C22 fatty acid, trimer poly-carboxylic C12 to C22 fatty acid, tetramer poly-carboxylic C12 to C22 fatty acid, mixtures of these acids, or a polyamide wherein the polyamide is the condensation reaction product of a C12-C22 fatty acid and a polyamine selected from the group consisting of diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine; and pentaethylenetetramine. The drilling fluid preferably includes a weighting agent or bridging agent which may be selected from galena, hematite, magnetite, iron oxides, illmenite, barite, siderite, celestite, dolomite, calcite as well as combinations and mixtures of these and similar compounds. Optionally organophillic clay, fluid loss agents, alkali reserve materials, and other conventional invert emulsion drilling fluid components may be added to the drilling fluid.

L'invention concerne un fluide de forage comprenant un fluide oléagineux formant la phase continue; un fluide non oléagineux formant la phase discontinue; un émulsifiant primaire en concentration suffisante pour stabiliser l'émulsion inverse; et un modificateur de rhéologie servant à modérer le changement rhéologique sur une plage de température comprise entre 40 et 150 DEG C. Le modificateur de rhéologie peut être un acide gras dimère polycarboxylique C12 à C22, un acide gras trimère polycarboxylique C12 à C22, un acide gras tétramère polycarboxylique C12 à C22, des mélanges de ces acides, ou une polyamide, lequel polyamide étant le produit réactionnel de condensation d'un acide gras C12-C22 et d'un polyamine sélectionné dans le groupe constitué de: diéthylènetriamine, triéthylènetétramine; et pentaéthylènetétramine. Le fluide de forage comprend de préférence un agent alourdissant ou un agent de pontage pouvant être sélectionné dans: galène, hématite, magnétite, oxydes de fer, illménite, barite, sidérite, célestite, dolomite, calcite ainsi que des combinaisons et des mélanges de ceux-ci et des composés analogues. En variante, de l'argile organophile, des agents de perte de fluide, des matériaux de réserve alcalins, et d'autres composants de fluide de forage d'émulsion inversée classiques peuvent être ajoutés au fluide de forage.
