A method for cold forming a flattened, end-threaded rod (10) into a U-bolt (20) answers the need for high-strength steel rods that can be bent into flattened U-bolts by spring and suspension repair facilities or the like. By controlling the amount of work put into the end-threaded flattened rod (10) during bending, it is possible to manufacture a flattened, end-threaded rod from a high-strength steel that can be successfully cold bent into a U-bolt (20). The amount or degree of flattening and the radius of the U-bolt are variables which applicant controls to successfully cold bend a high-strength steel flattened rod (10) into a U-bolt (20). Therefore the spring and suspension repair facility avoids the need to heat the flattened rods for warm forming and, instead, can maintain an inventory of end-threaded and flattened rods for cold forming into flattened U-bolt comply with OEM designs when modifying or repairing vehicles.

L'invention concerne un procédé de formage à froid d'une tige (10) aplatie à bouts filetés en boulon en U (20); lequel procédé convient tout particulièrement pour des tiges en acier haute résistance pouvant être cintrées pour former des boulons en U au moyen d'installations de réparation à suspension et à ressort, ou d'installations analogues. Réguler la quantité de travail dans la tige (10) aplatie à bouts filetés pendant le cintrage, permet de fabriquer une tige aplatie à bouts filetés à partir d'un acier haute résistance qui peut être cintré à froid de façon satisfaisante pour former un boulon en U (20). La valeur ou le degré d'aplatissement et le rayon du boulon en U sont variables, l'utilisateur régule ces paramètres pour pouvoir cintrer à froid de façon satisfaisante une tige (10) aplatie en acier haute résistance afin de former un boulon en U (20). Ainsi, l'installations de réparation à suspension et à ressort permet d'éviter le chauffage des tiges aplaties pour le formage à chaud; par contre, elle permet de conserver un stock de tiges aplaties à bouts filetés pour le formage à froid en boulon en U conformément aux conceptions des équipementiers, lors de la modification ou de la réparation de véhicules.
